Committee shortlists 15 names for vacant membership positions at CSC

Parliamentary Committee on Independent Institutions has shortlisted 15 names for the 4 vacant membership positions at Civil Service Commission (CSC).

The parliament received 41 applications for the vacant membership positions at CSC. Following the completion of interviews, the committee shortlisted 15 names to be sent to the parliament floor for approval. Committee Chair, Parliamentarian Rozaina Adam said all 15 applicants who were shortlisted are highly capable and qualified individuals, adding this is the first time the committee has received such a large number of good applications for an independent commission.

Four membership positions at CSC were vacated following the resignation of three members and the dismissal of one member by the parliament. The dismissal motion against President of CSC Aly Shameem and members Shaheed Mohamed, Zakariyya Hussain and Ibrahim Shaheeq was passed by the Parliamentary Committee on Independent Institutions after conducting an inquiry on their actions as CSC members. Shameem, Shaheed and Zakariyya resigned before the parliament scheduled the dismissal vote, while Shaheeq was removed with votes from 48 parliamentarians.

Fathimath Amira, who is the most recent appointment to the five-member commission, is the only remaining member at CSC.
