President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has sent the names of applicants for the vacant positions at the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM), for parliamentary consideration.
The President’s Office had earlier opened application for the four vacancies at HRCM until August 18. Following the end of the application period, the names of the applicants have been sent to the Parliament of the Maldives for review.
Four membership positions at HRCM were vacated following the resignation of three members, Aminath Eenas, Aishath Afreen and Moosa Kaleyfaan, and the dismissal of Mohamed Zahid through a no-confidence vote at the Parliament of the Maldives. The parliament had launched a dismissal motion against all four members after conducting an inquiry their failure to fulfill their responsibilities in protecting basic human rights of vulnerable communities and in taking action against human rights violations in the country.
