Maldives Immigration has revealed over 7,000 Bangladeshi nationals have been repatriated from the Maldives amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Speaking to PSM News, Maldives Immigration said 7,190 Bangladeshi nationals have been repatriated since the closing of borders due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Immigration stated out of the 7,190 individuals repatriated, 4,849 were undocumented workers and the remaining 2,260 individuals voluntarily requested to return home.
The most recent repatriation flight of the national airline, Maldivian carried 152 Bangladeshi nationals. As part of efforts to repatriate undocumented foreigners, the government has decided to operate two weekly repatriation flights.
