HEOC ends search for expatriates who fled after testing positive for COVID-19

Health Emergency Operation Centre (HEOC) has revealed it is no longer searching for the expatriates who fled the health authorities after testing positive for COVID-19.

Speaking at a press conference, Spokesperson of HEOC Dr. Nazla Rafeeq said some of the expatriates who fled after testing positive for COVID-19 were located, although 15 people remain missing. Dr. Nazla said the search for the missing expatriates has been terminated, as it has been more than 21 days since they tested positive which means they are likely to have recovered from COVID-19 by now.

The number of COVID-19 cases has surged over the past few weeks after the government eased restrictions imposed to curb the spread of the disease. HEOC has urged the public to cooperate with the authorities to control the spread of COVID-19, in order to ensure the outbreak is contained within the capacity of the healthcare system of the Maldives.
