Over 6,000 arrivals recorded since reopening of borders

Health Emergency Operation Centre (HEOC) has revealed over 6,000 arrivals have been recorded since reopening the borders of the Maldives.

The government of the Maldives closed its border on March 27, as a precautionary measure against the COVID-19 pandemic. The borders were reopened by the government on July 15.

Speaking in a press conference, Spokesperson of the HEOC Dr. Nazla Rafeeq said 6,277 arrivals have been recorded since the borders have been reopened. She added 342 arrivals were recorded on August 8.

The spokesperson further revealed in total 4,877 individuals have departed the Maldives since July 15. She also added 360 individuals departed the Maldives on August 8.

The government of the Maldives aims to record 850,000 tourist arrivals by the end of the year.
