Presidential Commission on Investigation of Murders and Enforced Disappearances (DDCom) has urged the public to present credible information on the disappearance of journalist Ahmed Rilwan.
A statement from DDCom after six years to his disappearance requested information on the case. The statement suggested the likelihood of witnesses and information on the case as the disappearance of Rilwan remains under investigation six years on. The commission pledged to offer anonymity and security to anyone who presents information.
DDCom stated the families still need to be ensured of justice which will be solace to the grieving family. The commission assured it is working to provide justice to Rilwan and families of all individuals who have disappeared or been murdered. As such, the commission is now looking to appoint a foreign expert on such investigations following the decision from President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
President Solih met with families of disappeared journalist Ahmed Rilwan Abdulla and murdered blogger Yaameen Rasheed and revealed his decision to hire an expert to probe the cases. DDCom stated is now working with the President's Office on the matter.
Ahmed Rilwan, who was working as a journalist for Minivan News, has been missing since August 8, 2014. The findings of DDCom into the case, which were released last year, indicate he was abducted and murdered. However, no charges have been pressed regarding the matter due to the lack of sufficient credible evidence.
