Another batch of Maldivian patients travel to India

Aasandha Company Limited has transferred an additional batch of Maldivian patients to India for advanced medical treatment.

The state-owned company administering and managing the national health insurance scheme has been transferring critical care patients to India, under special arrangements made by the government of India amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The company said a total of 50 Maldivians travelled to India on August 7, which includes 21 patients and their aides. They travelled to India via a chartered flight of the national airline, Maldivian.

Aasandha stated the patients will under undergo quarantine at the accommodation blocks of their respective hospitals, noting the patients will undergo treatment during the quarantine period. The company said all patients and their aides will be tested for COVID-19 upon arrival in India as well as at the end of their 14-day quarantine period.

This is the fourth batch of Maldivians transferred to India for medical treatment under the special arrangements made by the Indian government. A total of 147 Maldivians had travelled to India across the first three batches on June 29, July 14 and July 29 respectively. The patients transferred to India will undergo treatment from Kerala Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) Hospital and Amrita Institute of Medical Science (AIMS) Hospital.

Furthermore, Aasandha revealed two Maldivians who had travelled to India on July 29 have tested positive for COVID-19. One of them is a patient, while the other is the aide of another patient. Aasandha said both individuals will remain quarantined in India for a further 14 days.

Another four Maldivians who travelled to India on July 14 had also tested positive for COVID-19. Aasandha said three of them have now fully recovered from COVID-19.
