Minister of Economic Development Fayyaz Ismail has assured undocumented and illegal expatriates will not be deported wrongfully from the Maldives.
Speaking to PSM News, Minister Fayyaz said undocumented and illegal expatriates will be deported in accordance with the Immigration Act. Fayyaz said the ministry also adhered to all procedures in deporting the expatriates who protested in Hulhumale' last month. He added they were not merely deported due to the protests alone, rather for vandalism and attacking the police. He affirmed the administration will never be wrongful in treating expatriate workers and nor will it entertain vandalism and violence from them.
Hundreds of expatriate workers protested last month in Male' City and Hulhumale' over delayed salaries. The authorities have revealed 15 of the 41 expatriates arrested for attacking the police and their vehicles have been deported in accordance with the Immigration Act of the Maldives.
