Ambassadors of three countries have paid farewell calls to Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid.
The ambassadors to pay farewell calls to the foreign minister on July 23 include Ambassador of the UAE to the Maldives Dr. Saeed Mohamed Ali Alshamsi, Ambassador of Switzerland to the Maldives Hanspeter Mock and Ambassador of Germany to the Maldives Jörn Rohde.
During the telephone call with the UAE Ambassador, Minister Shahid thanked Ambassador Alshamsi for his effort towards improving Maldives-UAE relations during his tenure, and acknowledged the important role played by the ambassador in establishing the first Resident Embassy of the UAE in the Maldives. The minister also expressed his appreciation to the government of the UAE for its continued support and assistance to the Maldives as an invaluable development partner, with increased bilateral exchanges taking place over the recent years.
Ambassador Alshamsi reiterated his gratitude to the Foreign Minister and the government of the Maldives for the support extended to him during his tenure, and expressed confidence that the relationship between the Maldives and UAE will grow stronger in the years ahead.
During the telephone call held with Swiss Ambassador Hanspeter Mock, Minister Shahid congratulated the ambassador on the completion of his successful tenure and thanked him for his hard work in strengthening the close cooperation between the Maldives and Switzerland. Ambassador Mock conveyed his gratitude to the government of Maldives for the close cooperation and expressed hope for strengthened ties between the Maldives and Switzerland in the future.
Minister Shahid and Ambassador Mock exchanged updates pertaining to the ongoing situation of the COVID-19 pandemic in their respective countries and discussed ways to overcome the economic and financial consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Meanwhile, the farewell call of German Ambassador Jörn Rohde was held through a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During the meeting, Foreign Minister Shahid congratulated the ambassador on the completion of his successful tenure and thanked for his contribution in strengthening the longstanding relations between the Maldives and Germany. The minister also thanked the ambassador for his personal commitment to democracy consolidation, institutional reform, and good governance in the Maldives.
Ambassador Rohde conveyed his gratitude to the government of the Maldives for the close cooperation and expressed hope for strengthened ties between the Maldives and Germany.
