The Parliament of the Maldives has approved the appointment of ambassadors to five countries.
The parliament had reviewed the ambassadors nominated by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, the UAE and Switzerland. The president nominated Dr. Hussain Niyaz to India, Faruzana Zahir to Pakistan, Shiruzimath Sameer to Bangladesh and Aminath Shabeena to the UAE. He also nominated Ambassador at Large Dr. Asim Ahmed as the Permanent Representative to United Nations Office in Geneva and the Non-resident Ambassador to Switzerland.
The appointment of ambassadors Faruzana Zahir, Aminath Shabeena and Dr. Hussain Niyaz was approved with votes from 70 parliamentarians. The appointment of Shiruzimath Sameer was approved with votes from 68 parliamentarians, while the appointment of Dr. Asim Ahmed was approved with votes from 69 parliamentarians.
Following the latest appointments, the total number of foreign ambassadors and heads of diplomatic missions of the Maldives is 18, split evenly between the two genders.
