Parliament approves appointment of Aminath Ummu Kulsoom to JSC

The Parliament of the Maldives has approved the appointment of Aminath Ummu Kulsoom as the Public Representative at the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).

Ummu Kulsoom was one of the two names shortlisted by the Parliamentary Committee on Judiciary to the position of Public Representative at JSC, after interviewing five individuals who applied for the position. As the top nominee on the shortlist, her name was the first to be called for a vote during the parliament sitting on July 22. As the parliament passed her appointment with votes from 67 parliamentarians, no vote was taken on the second nominee, Adam Migdhaadh.

Ummu Kulsoom is currently serving at the Ministry of Arts, Culture and Heritage. She had also previously served as the Director General at the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment.

JSC is composed of 8 members including the parliament speaker, a representative judge from the Supreme Court, a representative judge from the High Court, a representative judge from lower courts, representatives from the president, the parliament and the public, as well as the president of the Civil Service Commission (CSC) and the Attorney General.
