Ministry of Education has announced plans to recommence studies for two additional grades next month.
Speaking to PSM News, Minister of State for Education Aishath Athiya Naseer said efforts are underway to restart studies for grades 7 and 8 in schools located in the Greater Male' Region. Athiya said studies are expected to commence during the second week of August. She further said the ministry will observe the situation closely and studies for more grades will be introduced should the situation continue to improve.
The state minister added the schools will continue teaching with the safety measures and guidelines from the authorities. In this regard, she noted schools will check temperatures before each session, while students will wear masks, and maintain social distancing seating arrangements.
The ministry restarted grade schools for grades 9 and above July 1, after keeping the schools closed for over three months, following the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite a restriction on restarting studies for lower grade students in the Greater Male' Region, the ministry has restarted schooling for all grade students in islands without a reported case of COVID-19. The schools in the islands have been provided with facilities to wash hands and disinfect schools after each session.
