Anti-Corruption Commission of the Maldives (ACC) has stated it is unable to provide a deadline on the investigation of the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) corruption scandal.

Speaking at the Parliamentary Committee on Independent Institutions, members of ACC stated they have selected a specific team of investigators to probe into the case and they are all working to complete the investigation as soon as possible. In this regard, member Ibrahim Shakeel said charges against some individuals have been sent for prosecution and it might take another 6-12 months to complete investigating the scandal. He said the investigations are ongoing parallelly depending on resources and practicality.

Speaking at the parliamentary committee, President of ACC Mariyam Shiuna said the commission is also investigating cases opened four years, adding the commission is also currently trying to complete those cases as well. She said the commission has a number of cases currently being investigated and is faced with significant challenges as it only has 45 investigative officers.

ACC also said it is currently working with the Prosecutor General's Office and Attorney General's Office to remove the difficulties faced in efforts to pace up the investigations.
