Parliamentary Committee on Judiciary has shortlisted two individuals for the position of the public representative at the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).
The committee had interviewed five individuals who applied for the position following the public announcement issued by the Parliament Secretariat. Following the interview process, the committee decided to shortlist Aminath Ummu Kulsoom and Adam Migdhaadh for the position.
The decision to shortlist the two names was approved with votes from two-third of the members present at the committee meeting on July 16. The names have now been forwarded to the parliament chamber for the final selection.
JSC is composed of 8 members including the parliament speaker, a representative judge from the Supreme Court, a representative judge from the High Court, a representative judge from lower courts, representatives from the president, the parliament and the public, as well as the president of the Civil Service Commission (CSC) and the Attorney General. In addition to the slot for the public representative, the slot for the president of the CSC is also vacant following the resignation of Aly Shameem from the commission.
