Ministry of Economic Development has revealed the employment approvals issued for expatriates will expire within 90 days from the day the borders were reopened.
The regulations state an expatriate seeking to work in the Maldives must enter the country within 90 days from the date of the issue of employment approval. However, referring to the current situation as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the economic ministry declared the employment approvals issued from December 1, 2019 will expire 90 days after the borders of the Maldives were reopened. After a shutdown of 110 days, the borders of the Maldives were reopened for international operations on July 15.
Furthermore, the economic ministry announced an additional special permit will not be required for expatriates entering the country hereafter. Since last March, the ministry mandated expatriate workers to obtain additional permits to work in the Maldives amid COVID-19 pandemic. However, the ministry said Maldives Immigration has nullified the policy which requires expatriate workers to obtain additional permits to travel to the Maldives.
