Health Protection Agency (HPA) has stated individuals travelling to islands for public services and projects are no longer required to undergo quarantine.
The latest guideline issued by HPA on travelling to islands permits individuals travelling for public services and projects to skip quarantine, although they are still required to obtain a prior permit for travelling and to notify the respective island council before the trip. Under the new rule, individuals travelling to provide cable and media network services, banking services, utility services, maintenance services and for the supervision or inspection of a medical facility in the island are permitted to travel without quarantine. In addition, individuals travelling to islands under an ongoing project of the government or the private sector are also permitted to travel without quarantine.
HPA has also specified the guidelines to be followed when travelling to islands under the aforementioned purposes. As such, travellers are only allowed to be in the allocated space for the required work, unless necessary. Companies or institutions which send employees to the islands are required to arrange a separate accommodation for them to ensure the employees do not mix with the public.
The HPA guideline further states any COVID-19 symptoms displayed by a traveller must immediately be reported to HPA. Travellers are also required to leave the island as soon as their purpose for travelling is fulfilled.
