Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has decided to probe Judge of Juvenile Court Abdul Baaree Yoosuf over allegations of fabricating his asset declaration.
In a circular on July 8, JSC said it has decided to investigate allegations that Judge Abdul Baree failed to declare his involvement in a business which he benefited from.
Previously, JSC suspended Judge Abdul Baari on December 12 in relation to an investigation regarding the allegations he received funds from the Maldives Marketing and Public relations Corporation (MMPRC) corruption scandal. JSC said Maldives Police Service (MPS) has informed Judge Abdul Baari was among the individuals who received financial benefits from the embezzled funds of MMPRC and has enough information to conduct a criminal investigation.
Abdul Baari was previously the Chief Judge of the Criminal Court but was transferred to the Juvenile Court in 2017. He has presided over many criminal cases involving political opponents of former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom including former President Mohamed Nasheed, former Minister of Defence Mohamed Nazim and incumbent Minister of Home Affairs Imran Abdulla. The guilty verdicts handed down to them were later annulled by the Supreme Court after finding flaws in the trials.
