President discusses outcomes of gradual ease of restrictions

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has discussed the outcomes of the gradual easing of temporary restrictive measures enacted to contain COVID-19 in the Maldives.

The meeting chaired by the president was held as part of a series of ongoing stakeholder sessions to facilitate the overall monitoring of the health situation in the country, following the dissolution of the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC).

In light of the successes in managing the pandemic, the country moved into a new phase in the fight against Covid-19 starting July 1, under the overall strategy to steer the country towards a new normal. Accordingly, the discussions cantered on the specifics of the new normal, increasing public awareness and health sector preparedness, and addressing any further challenges to the health response.

Vice President Faisal Naseem and several cabinet ministers took part in the discussions. The meeting was also attended by senior officials at the President's Office, health professionals and senior officials of the Health Emergency Operations Centre (HEOC), the Maldives Police Service (MPS) and the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF).
