Fenaka Corporation has decided to provide a 40% discount on electricity bills for June.
The state utilities company, which provides services across 150 islands in the Maldives, stated the government has decided to subsidise electricity bills for June, as part of efforts to provide financial relief to the public amid the COVID-19 pandemic. As such, Fenaka announced a 40% discount will be provided for electricity bills from June.
The announcement from Fenaka came just a few days after State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) announced it would be providing a 40% discount for electricity bills in the Greater Male’ Region for the month of June. The decision came after several complaints were raised regarding the unusually high electricity bills issued for the month of June.
The government had initially decided to subsidise electricity and water bills for April and May, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As such, 40% of electricity bills and 30% of water bills were subsidised during the two months.
