Only one person advised to accompany arriving and departing passengers

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has advised and recommended only one person to attend in receiving and seeing off passengers in efforts minimise unnecessary visits to Velana International Airport (VIA).

MACL advised the measure to safeguard the public after the airport resumed its domestic operations following a suspension due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Domestic air travel resumed in the Maldives on July 1, after all domestic and international air travel had been suspended in the country since mid-April.

The administration has decided to reopen the borders of the Maldives in a bid to restart international flights from July 15. MACL has taken various precautionary and safety measures to protect the public including temperature checks of all staff and passengers as well as placing social distancing reminder signs in the terminals and public spaces at VIA. Additionally, counters have been fitted with glass partitions to minimise the possible risk of virus spreading from passengers to staff.
