National airline evacuates 91 locals stranded in India

The national flag carrier, Maldivian, has evacuated 91 locals stranded in India.

Maldivian stated its flight from Cochin, India arrived at Velana International Airport (VIA) with Maldivian nationals who have been stranded in India after travelling for advanced medical treatment. They had been unable to return back to the Maldives following the closure of borders and lockdowns imposed amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The collaborative efforts of all relevant authorities and the national carrier have so far facilitated the returned of over 4,000 Maldivians stranded abroad. Maldivian revealed over 38 trips have been made for various destinations to evacuate locals stranded abroad.
