Three flights request to travel the day Maldives reopens borders

Minister of Tourism Ali Waheed has revealed three flights have requested to travel to the Maldives when the borders are reopened on July 15.

Speaking at a press conference held at the National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) to inform the public on the preparations to open the borders, Tourism Minister Ali Waheed said discussions were held with airlines already operating to the Maldives. The minister stated so far 11 airlines have requested to reserve slots to travel to the Maldives once the borders are reopened. He expressed the first flight with passengers will land at the Velana International Airport (VIA) sometime in the morning of July 15.

Furthermore, the tourism minister revealed extensive discussions were held in the past couple of months with parties associated with the airport. The minister added Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has assured to give clearance for flights to land every 20 minutes. He highlighted all authorities involved in the operations will work together in the next three months to enhance the operations by making necessary changes.

Speaking at a press conference held at President's Office on June 23, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih revealed the borders of the Maldives will be reopened for international operations on July 15, adding resorts will also be reopened simultaneously.
