Higher education opportunities will be provided despite COVID-19: President

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated the government will continue to provide higher education scholarships and loans without interruption, despite the challenges of COVID-19.

In a tweet, President Solih said the government remains focused on higher education and training opportunities for Maldivians, despite the difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. In this regard, he stated key programmes such as the High Achievers’ Scholarship, the President’s Award Scholarship and student loans schemes shall continue uninterrupted.

Ministry of Higher Education has been coordinating efforts to assist local students stranded abroad amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The ministry has also issued loans to 514 students under the loan scheme announced in February.

Meanwhile, the government has also opened the opportunity to apply for the President’s Award Scholarship and the High Achievers’ Scholarship. In addition, over 5,000 students are currently studying under the Free Degree programme initiated by the government.
