Parliament reviewing nominations for 5 Ambassadorship roles

Parliamentary Committee on National Security and Foreign Relations has begun reviewing the nominations for ambassadorships of five countries.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has nominated ambassadors for India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, the UAE and Switzerland. The president nominated Dr. Hussain Niyaz to India, Faruzana Zahir to Pakistan, Shiruzimath Sameer to Bangladesh and Aminath Shabeena to the UAE. He also nominated Ambassador at Large Dr. Asim Ahmed as the Permanent Representative to United Nations Office in Geneva and the Non-resident Ambassador to Switzerland.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid acknowledged three of the five nominations as heads of diplomatic missions are women. He said the Maldives Foreign Service will have gender parity among the heads of diplomatic missions for the first time should they get appointed.
