Parliament Secretariat quarantined after staff tests positive for COVID-19

The Secretariat of the Parliament of the Maldives has been quarantined after a staff tested positive for COVID-19.

Speaking to PSM News, Media and Communications Director at the parliament Hassan Ziyau confirmed a male staff working at the maintenance section of the secretariat tested positive for COVID-19. Ziyau added contact tracing of the positive of the individual is being conducted with Health Protection Agency (HPA), noting over 140 staff work at the parliament secretariat. He added the parliament building has been shut down and work will be continued with the advice of HPA.

So far, 2,094 cases of COVID-19 have been detected in Maldives while a total of 1,670 individuals have made full recoveries. The country has recorded 8 deaths from COVID-19, including four Maldivians aged 80, 83, 88 and 89 and four Bangladeshis aged 33, 38, 45 and 54.
