The medical team of the Bangladesh Army has commended the role played by Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in efforts to control the spread of COVID-19 in the Maldives.
The team of doctors and medical assistants from the Bangladesh Army was sent to the Maldives to assist the COVID-19 response efforts in the country. Before their departure from the Maldives, the medical team held a meeting with senior officials of IGMH to discuss the experience and challenges of working in the healthcare field of the Maldives.
During the meeting, the team from the Bangladesh Army praised the role played by IGMH in COVID-19 response efforts, adding the proactive measures helped to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the country. The team also noted IGMH does not discriminate in providing care for patients.
Speaking at the meeting, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of IGMH Ibrahim Saleem thanked the Bangladesh Army medical team for the assistance provided to COVID-19 response efforts in the Maldives. He said the training provided by the team to local healthcare workers was crucial in strengthening the preparedness for a surge in COVID-19 cases.
The Bangladesh Army medical team included 10 doctors and medical assistants. The team was honoured with a plaque by IGMH in appreciation of the assistance provided to the hospital amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The government of Bangladesh has been assisting the fight against COVID-19 in the Maldives through multiple fields. In this regard, Bangladesh has provided 10 tonnes of food and essential supplies to the Maldives, while also helping to evacuate 71 Maldivians stranded in Bangladesh and Nepal amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
