State revenue collected through Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has decreased by 81% in May 2020, compared to May 2019.
The monthly statistics published by MIRA revealed the authority had collected USD 13.35 million in May 2020, which is 81% lower than the revenue collected in May 2019. MIRA attributed the decrease to the suspension of tourism operations in the Maldives and the extended tax deadlines amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The revenue collected by MIRA in May 2020 includes USD 10.23 million in tax revenue and USD 3.12 million in non-tax revenue. Goods and Services Tax (GST) contributed 55% of the total revenue generated by MIRA in May 2020.
