Over USD 2 million spent last week for COVID-19 relief efforts

Ministry of Finance has revealed over USD 2 million was spent last week for COVID-19 relief efforts. The weekly spending report showed the spending on relief efforts increased by 3.5% in the past week compared to the previous week.

National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) spent significantly higher compared to other agencies in the relief works, as it is the front-line agency in the efforts. The weekly spending report states NDMA spent approximately USD 39 million the past week primarily on operational services, medical consumables and requisites necessary for its COVID-19 operations. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health spent over USD 9 million on COVID-19 operations.

The statistics showed the most of the expenses were on supplies and requisites for service provisions. In this regard, USD 29 million was spent by the state to procure test kits, personal protective equipment (PPE) and other essentials.

The total COVID-19 expenditure by the state stood at over USD 59 million by June 4.
