Minister of Tourism Ali Waheed leads the initiative to welcome tourists back to the Maldives, as the country prepares to reopen borders following the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Maldives is one of the hardest-hit countries by the COVID-19 pandemic in terms of economic damage, as the pandemic has effectively brought a halt to tourism, which constitutes 70% of the Maldivian economy. However, as the spread of COVID-19 slows down in the Maldives, the country has begun efforts to restart tourism operations and welcome tourists back to the Maldives after more than 3 months.
As part of the efforts to restart tourism in July, Ministry of Tourism and Maldives Marketing & Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) launched a live event on June 8 to virtually promote the Maldives as a tourist destination. The event titled Maldives: The Sun Will Shine Again was aimed to take viewers on a virtual journey to rediscover the beautiful islands of the Maldives, as the tourism industry heads towards recovery.
The event was kicked off with a short video by Minister of Tourism Ali Waheed, who is actively leading the charge to restart tourism operations in the Maldives. Following the 3-hour promotional event, MMPRC said well-wishers from around the world came together to express their love and sentiments, and dig into the good old memories from their travel escapades in the sunny side of life, as a reminder that the sun will shine again.
