National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) has revealed 360 individuals have been transferred to their home islands from transit quarantine facilities.
Speaking at the daily press briefing, Spokesperson of NEOC Mohamed Mabrook Azeez said over 2,700 individuals have been placed in transit quarantine facilities after the government approved their requests to return to their home islands after being locked down in Male’ City. He said 360 of them have now returned to their home islands after completing the mandatory 14-day period in transit quarantine.
The spokesperson said the eased restrictions announced on May 28 have increased the speed and efficiency of transferring individuals to transit quarantine facilities. As such, he revealed 94 people were placed in transit quarantine on May 31 alone.
Individuals who have requested to return to their home islands must undergo a 14-day period in transit quarantine and test negative for COVID-19 before they are permitted to return home. Upon reviewing requests and consulting the respective local councils to verify information, the government initially prepared a list of 1,600 people to be transferred from Male’ City. Although more than 1,600 people have now been permitted to leave the capital, priority is given to the individuals included in the initial list.
Nine resorts have been allocated as transit quarantine facilities for individuals seeking to return to their home islands. Additionally, guesthouses in Hulhumale’ are also being used as transit quarantine facilities.
