Maldives Police Service (MPS) has stated residents of Villimale’ will now be permitted to go to Male’ for grocery shopping, under the first phase of easing lockdown restrictions.
Speaking at a press conference, Assistant Commissioner of Police Abdulla Fairoosh said grocery permits will now be issued to 3 individuals from each household, twice a week. The assistant commissioner said the zones allocated for shopping will be widened under the eased restrictions, noting permits will now be issued for residents of Villimale’ to buy groceries in Male’. However, he said permits will not be issued to travel from Male’ to Villimale’ or Hulhumale’, as well as Hulhumale’ to Male’.
Speaking further, the assistant commissioner said arrangements have been made to minimise the contact between Male’ and other areas, in order to mitigate the risk of COVID-19 transmission. He urged the public to continue following the instructions of authorities in order to control the spread of COVID-19 and to gradually move towards a new normal situation.
