Islamic University of the Maldives (IUM) has decided to offer a 20% tuition fee discount on all its courses for 2020 in its bid to assist students impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Speaking to PSM News, Deputy Vice Chancellor of IUM Dr. Saudulla Ali said the decision has been approved by University Council and students have been notified of the decision. He said students will have to bear internet fees as the classes will be taught online for the rest of the semester and hence, the discount was offered to ease the financial burden on students during a time all economic activities in the country has been suspended.
Saudulla further said IUM has negotiated with local Internet service providers to offer students 5GB of free internet. He said students will also be able to access the learning management system of the university, Moodle, for free.
IUM plans to resume its studies online on May 28 after a suspension of all learning activities. The university is working to complete the January semester by July.
