Minister of Finance Ibrahim Ameer has revealed the administration has disbursed income support allowance of USD 44,747 to a total of 69 individuals.
Speaking at a press conference held at the National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC), Finance Minister Ameer said the allowances were paid out to 69 individuals registered at the Job Centre established in the Ministry of Economic Development, after the documents were verified. He said further payments will be released after the verification of documents is complete.
The finance minister said the administration is working to mitigate the impact of the economic regression of COVID-19 on the people, by providing financial assistance, as well as by negotiating with the banks to offer loans to the public. The minister assured all government expenses during the current COVID-19 outbreak is aimed at ensuring public safety and reducing the impact of the pandemic on the citizens. He said the government is also reaching out to the international community for assistance to revive the economy and economic activities in the country.
