President appeals to utilise modern technology to honour festive spirit of Eid

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has appealed to utilise modern technology to honor the festive spirit of Eid and to strengthen the family bonds.

In the message sent to extend greetings of Eid-al-Fitr, President Solih emphasised on the importance of unity and inclusivity. The president remarked that whilst social distancing measures remain necessary due to COVID-19, it is still possible to honour the festive spirit of Eid through the use of modern technology, urging all Maldivians to reach out to their friends and famil, in order to celebrate this joyous occasion with them.

President Solih acknowledged that some individuals and families feel despondent and vulnerable due to the ongoing battle against COVID-19. He underlined now is an especially appropriate time to reach out and help those in need, noting the essence of Eid al-Fitr lies in generosity, kindness and empathy.

The president further urged to remain inside the safety of the homes for protection from the pandemic and to practice the values of Islam, including stoicism in the face of adversity, kindness towards children and caring for the parents and elders. He said it is important to spend a meaningful time with loved ones to counteract the negative effects the extended lockdown may have on one's mental well-being.

Concluding the statement, President Solih urged all Maldivians to contemplate on the lessons learned during the Ramadan and to remain united in the face of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
