Minister of Home Affairs Imran Abdulla has revealed there are currently 830 individuals in transit quarantine facilities, seeking to return to their home islands after being locked down in Male’ City.
The home ministry has been working with relevant authorities in transporting individuals in Male’ who have requested to return to their home islands amid the lockdown imposed in the Greater Male’ Region. As per the policy of Health Protection Agency (HPA), all such individuals are required undergo a 14-day quarantine period in a transit facility allocated by the government.
Home Minister Imran said there are currently 830 individuals in transit quarantine facilities. He further stated the government plans to place 1,800 people in transit quarantine facilities before May 24, in order to allow them to return to their home islands.
The home ministry has prepared a list of individuals locked down in Male’ who wish to return to their home islands. The individuals have been sorted by the order of priority, based on information collected on their living conditions and the need for departure. The ministry says over 5,000 people have requested to return home amid the lockdown, although the list includes 1,800 people who have been shortlisted after review.
The government has allocated isolation beds for 1,000 individuals who will undergo transit quarantine, including 500 beds from resorts and 500 beds from guesthouses in Hulhumale’. Upon the end of transit quarantine, they will be tested for COVID-19 before being allowed to return home.
