Attorney General Ibrahim Riffath has stated live streaming trial hearings of the Supreme Court of the Maldives would reaffirm the hope of justice in the country. The attorney general made the statement after Supreme Court published the policy on conducting its hearings online and streaming it live on Twitter and YouTube.
Attorney General Riffath said the decision to live stream hearings of the Supreme Court is a historic decision, adding it would help to speed up trials and save expenses. He added live streaming hearings would also help to conduct trials in a more transparent manner and would help reinstate public faith in the justice system of the country.
Supreme Court trials had been put on hold due to the declaration of the State of Public Health Emergency in the Maldives. However, the court has said the new policy would ensure trials are continued without any further interruptions.
