The Maldives and the US have held discussions on efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic and ways to restore economic growth. The discussions were held via a telephone conversation between President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and the US National Security Advisor Robert O'Brien.
In a tweet following the call, President Solih thanked the support from the US in the fight to curb COVID-19. He revealed discussions during the phone call focused on efforts of both countries to overcome the pandemic.
Moreover, a tweet posted by the National Security Council (NSC) revealed discussions also focused on ways to restore economic growth. NSC announced O'Brien offered assistance from the US to provide critical care to the citizens of the Maldives during the time of crisis. NSC noted both leaders discussed the importance of multilateral debt relief for the Maldives, and others, as the global economy begins to recover.
Meanwhile, President Solih highlighted global solidarity and cooperation are paramount to overcome challenges brought about by the pandemic.
