Economic Ministry suspends issuing permits for businesses

Ministry of Economic Development has temporarily suspended issuing permits for businesses to operate during the lockdown imposed in the Greater Male’ Region.

In a tweet, the economic ministry said all shop and delivery permits issued for essential services by Maldives Police Service (MPS) will be temporarily suspended until May 28. However the ministry said permits will be issued for parties allocated by Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) to clear goods in the ports.

Meanwhile, MPS has decided all grocery permits can now be used once a week. The police said a new text message will be sent for the permit holders detailing the new times they can do grocery shopping. MPS revealed re-registration for permits is not necessary if a person is already registered.

Authorities have imposed stricter measures to minimise the impact as health professionals expect the COVID-19 situation in Maldives to experience a surge towards the end of the month.
