National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) says a total of 392 residents from other islands stranded in Male' City due to the lockdown have been transferred to transit quarantine facilities.
Speaking at the daily press briefing, Spokesperson of NEOC Mohamed Mabrook Azeez said the individuals have been moved to transit facilities for a period of 14-days before they are permitted to return to their islands.
Minister of Tourism Ali Waheed earlier stated 7 resorts have been allocated for residents from other islands stranded in Male'. The islands include Hon'daafushi Island Resort, Filitheyo Island Resort, Medhufushi Island Resort in addition to previously allocated islands of Herethere Island Resort,Sun Aqua Iru Veli, Fushifaru Maldives and Furaveri Island Resort and Spa.
The administration has suspended its decision to quarantine stranded residents in their respective home islands in efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19 from Male' City to other islands. A list of 1,600 people seeking to return to their islands have been identified and will be permitted to leave Male' City once they complete the quarantine period.
