Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced assistance is being provided for individuals to bring in essential medicine which is not available in the Maldives.
The foreign ministry said noted many people currently find it difficult to import essential medicine from other countries due to lockdowns and travel restrictions imposed in other countries. Hence, the ministry is aiding individuals to bring in medicine from Sri Lanka, India and Thailand once the packages are handed over to the Maldivian High Commission in the respective countries. The ministry said assistance has so far been provided to 78 individuals to bring in essential medicine which is not available in the country.
The ministry has instructed the people to be cautious to ensure the medicine is packed safely before handing them over to the diplomatic missions. Additionally, it has also requested not to parcel medicine for more than one individual in one single package.
The service is a collaborative effort of the foreign ministry, Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), Maldives Red Crescent (MRC), Maldives Police Service (MPS) and the national flag carrier, Maldivian.
