Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment Ahmed Mahloof has revealed 700 families in need are being provided food under the assistance of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).
Speaking at a press conference held at National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC), Minister Mahloof said the delivery team formed by the ministry has been very active in delivering food and other essential items to households amid the lockdown imposed in the Greater Male’ Region. The minister revealed the team has been working with UNICEF and the Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services in providing food to 700 vulnerable families in the capital. He added the ministry has also been working on developing temporary shelters for individuals who don’t have a home to stay during the lockdown.
Noting the delivery service remains one of the biggest challenges during the lockdown in Male’ City, the youth minister said nearly 500 individuals volunteered to join the delivery team of the ministry. He noted the team fully consists of locals, as encouraged by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
The minister said the government is working day and night to ease the difficulties faced by the public amid the lockdown. He said the target is to provide efficient services to the public even during the lockdown period and to ensure the country overcomes the current situation.
