Migrant Relief Fund opened by Maldivian Red Crescent (MRC) has received over USD 12,300.
Speaking at the daily press briefing by the National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC), President of MRC Ali Nashid said the fund aims to alleviate the impact of economic and social regression on expatriate workers in the Maldives due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Nashid further said the fund opened on May 1 is also part of ongoing efforts to expand and sustain support provided to expatriates hard hit with the COVID-19 pandemic. He said donations can be made via the website of MRC, adding the organisation also accepts donations to its accounts registered at Bank of Maldives (BML) and Maldives Islamic Bank (MIB).
In efforts to assist expatriates to brace the impact better, MRC has been providing food and hygiene kits to expatriates who have been transferred to quarantine and isolation facilities. It is also supplying food stocks to expatriate residences that have cooking facilities.
MRC said a total of 74,000 have been assisted both directly and indirectly during the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak.
