The state utility company, Fenaka Corporation Limited, has requested customers to send a photo of the electricity and water metres of households for billing purposes.
Fenaka said it is taking precautions for the safety of its staff and public amid the COVID-19 pandemic. As such, the company said billing will be carried out based on photos of the electricity and water metres in households, sent by the customers.
Fenaka stated the respective branch of the company will provide the contact number to send the photos via Viber. Fenaka said the metre number must be visible in the photos and must be sent along with the name of the household. The company requested customers who cannot send the photos on Viber to send the metre reading, metre number and name of household via SMS.
Fenaka provides utility services in 150 islands across the Maldives. The government has decided to subsidise electricity bills of April and May by 40%, and water bills of the two months by 30%.
