Ministry of Gender, Family, and Social Services has revealed temporary shelters have been arranged for 136 individuals in need of shelter following the lockdown imposed in the Greater Male’ Region.
The gender ministry said while shelters have been arranged for 136 individuals, 89 are already under the custody of the ministry. The ministry revealed the individuals under custody include 20 drug addicts, 16 individuals who were living on the streets, 14 individuals who have been stranded in Male’ after arriving at the capital to seek medical treatment, 13 resort employees who have been unable to return to their home islands and 11 individuals who were released from prison. The ministry added a further 6 individuals who were evicted from their rented apartments and 9 others who are stranded in Male’ after arriving at the capital for various purposes are currently under the custody of the ministry.
The gender ministry revealed 76 requests have been submitted to the ministry to arrange travel to another island. The ministry also stated 4 requests have been received for food assistance.
The ministry is providing temporary shelters at Ghaazee School and Rehendhi School in Hulhumale’. Additionally, a 24-room accommodation facility has been developed in the football school in Hulhumale’ to accommodate people in need.
The gender ministry has established the hotline 1412 to report people in need of assistance amid the lockdown in Greater Male’ Region.
