Assistance to be provided for Maldivians residing abroad

National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) has decided to provide assistance for Maldivians residing in foreign countries with disrupted income means.

Speaking at the daily press briefing, Spokesperson of NEOC Mohamed Mabrook Azeez revealed efforts are underway to provide assistance via the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Maldivians in foreign countries with disrupted income means. Mabrook stated a policy to provide assistance for Maldivians have been compiled. He said assistance under the policy will be provided for people who are stranded in foreign countries after leaving the Maldives for a short-term trip. He said Maldivians working abroad with disrupted income and students abroad will also be provided with aid.

The government has evacuated hundreds of Maldivians stranded in foreign countries due to global lockdowns and travel restrictions imposed to stop the spread of COVID-19.
