The government of Maldives has requested assistance from the government of South Korea for urgent needs.
During discussions with the South Koran Minister of Foreign Affairs Kang Kyung-Wha over a telephone call, Maldivian Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid highlighted the impact on the economy, noting the Maldives is highly dependent on tourism and imports. Minister Shahid briefed Minister Kang on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in the Maldives and the measures implemented to curb the spread of coronavirus. He also briefed Minister Kang on the Maldivian health sector's ability to cope with the COVID-19 pandemic.
Both foreign ministers reaffirmed commitment for continued cooperation and collaboration in advancing interests on areas of mutual concern, both bilaterally and internationally.
