The government has decided to send care packages for stranded Maldivians in UAE via the cargo flight of the national carrier, Maldivian.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated the cargo flight will depart on April 17 carrying care packages for Maldivians in Dubai and Abu Dhabi in UAE. The ministry stated the packages will be collected at the counters located near the departure hall at Velana International Airport (VIA) on April 16 from 0900hrs to 1500hrs. The ministry said packages will be sent free of charge and individuals seeking to send packages to UAE can register via its website.
The ministry further stated only packages weighing less than 15 kilograms which include items of urgent importance or medicines unavailable in UAE can be sent on the cargo flight. Items permitted to be sent to UAE include medicines, tuna cans, noodles, and tuna paste in its original packing. Processed and packed fish, fried leaves can also be included in the package.
The government has launched efforts to send care packages to Maldivians in foreign countries amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
