Job Centre receives 1,159 complaints on dismissals and no-pay leaves

National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) has revealed 1,159 complaints have been submitted to the Job Centre regarding dismissal and pay-cuts of employees amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking at the daily press briefing, Spokesperson of NEOC Mohamed Mabrook Azeez said the Job Centre established by Ministry of Economic Development has received about 400 new complaints within the last week. He noted most of the complaints involve imposing no-pay leaves on staff, followed by complaints on dismissal, suspension and cutting wages.

Minister of Finance Ibrahim Ameer had earlier announced the decision of the administration to provide a 3-month allowance for employees who are unfairly dismissed, beginning from April 1. The administration has urged employees who have been dismissed, sent on no-pay leaves or had their wages reduced to register at the Job Centre established by the economic ministry.
