Supreme Court publishes policy on continuing operations amid shutdown

Supreme Court of the Maldives has published the policy on conducting its operations during the shutdown of government offices amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The policy includes details of the procedure to follow in submitting electronic documents, filing cases, clarification of records and registration. The policy includes details of how hearings will be conducted during the State of Public Health Emergency declared in the Maldives. The court will be opened every Monday and Thursday for two hours for individuals who have difficulties communicating electronically, according to the policy.

Supreme Court has temporarily suspended clause 6 of the regulations on conducting trials, established under the Criminal Procedure Code, following the declaration of the State of Public Health Emergency. The court has devised a new policy on conducting hearings of trials through videoconferencing effective from April 8.
