A fire has broken out at Villivaru, Kaafu Atoll, where the government operates a quarantine facility.
PSM News understands the fire broke out at the waste disposal area in the island. The area is far from the quarantine facility, and no injuries were reported following the fire.
The fire and rescue team of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) is currently active in the area. MNDF reported the fire broke out from a container with goods, adding the fire has now been controlled.
The quarantine facility established in Villivaru has a capacity of 30 people. The island was previously used as a resort and recently attracted attention from the international media as a scenic quarantine facility.
